Description: Rare print of 835-865 Market Street, San Francisco, which would become the Emporium building. Produced by the California Architect and Building News and printed by Britton & Rey. Vol. XV, No. 7, July 1894. Image on cardboard backing. Approximately 9.75” x 13.5”. In fair condition, with staining to edges and corners. Some chips and tears to paper along perimeter. Pencil markings on rear. Image itself remains in good condition and mostly unaffected despite wear. General age-related toning to paper, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce print of the exterior view of what would become the Emporium in San Francisco, a department store in operation from 1896 to 1996. Despite surviving the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, it was destroyed by fire in 1908 and rebuilt with a nearly identical facade. Following its closure, its facade and dome were retained for the Westfield Shopping Centre (Now Emporium Centre San Francisco). FORN-SHELF-0676-BB-0524-aj0481
