Description: A rare historical letter signed by Colonel Charles F. Homer, as Chief Marshal Civic Grand Division appointing Mr. David Sink as Aide-de-camp on the occasion of the Inauguration of the General Grant Monument (Ulysses S. Grant) known as Grant’s Tomb (officially the General Grant National Memorial) and the Grant Monument Inaugural Parade on April 27, 1897. The letter dated April 10, 1897 goes on to indicate, “Aides will be mounted, wear high silk hats, Prince Albert coats, dark trousers, buff leather gloves, and spurs, will provide themselves with sashes, rosettes and saddle clloths as directed by the Grand Marshal. 8.5 X 9. Corners clipped otherwise very good condition. Grant’s Tomb is the final resting place of Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President of the United States (and his wife Julia) whose wish was to be interred in New York. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and its facade and interior are New York City designated landmarks.This is the first such letter that I have seen.
