Description: Vintage 1929 U.S. Forest Service folded map covering the Unaka National Forest in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Data is 1929; map printed by the Engineer Reproduction Plant, U.S. Army and distributed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1930. Map is in color with green showing national forest land and national forest boundaries; red showing highways and Forest Service installations. Scale is four miles to the inch or approximately 1:250,000-scale. Map measures 21 x 27 inches open and 9.25 x 4.25 inches folded., Lakes, streams, rivers, cities and towns, railroads, state and county boundaries are shown in black. On the back are 15 panels of text and black & white photographs describing this popular national forest. The Unaka National forest was terminated in 1936. Its lands in Virginia were added to the Jefferson National Forest, its lands in Tennessee went to the Cherokee National Forest and lands in North Carolina were added to the Pisgah National Forest. The last photo shows some openings in the paper on the folds and there are some tears along the folds too.. Perfect for the map collector!
