Description: Here we have a rare circa. 1935 Advertising Ink Blotter/Trade Card for Dunlop Cable Cord Tires sold by S.H. Davy of Wallacetown, Ontario Canada. It celebrates Sir Malcolm Campbell's 4-mile a minute landspeed record and shows an illustration of his Blue Bird Car. He set that record in 1935, achieving a top speed of 301 mph. Here is some info I found about him on the internet Major Sir Malcolm Campbell MBE (11 March 1885 – 31 December 1948) was a British racing motorist and motoring journalist. He gained the world speed record on land and on water at various times, using vehicles called Blue Bird, including a 1921 Grand Prix Sunbeam. His son, Donald Campbell, carried on the family tradition by holding both land speed and water speed records. Campbell broke the land speed record for the first time in 1924 at 146.16 mph (235.22 km/h) at Pendine Sands near Carmarthen Bay in a 350HP V12 Sunbeam, now on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. He broke nine land speed records between 1924 and 1935, with three at Pendine Sands and five at Daytona Beach. His first two records were accomplished whilst driving a racing car built by Sunbeam. In 1925 Campbell set a new lap record of 100 mph (160.93 km/h) at Brooklands in a streamlined Chrysler Six. On 4 February 1927, Campbell set the land speed record at Pendine Sands, covering the Flying Kilometre (in an average of two runs) at 174.883 mph (281.447 km/h) and the Flying Mile in 174.224 mph (280.386 km/h), in the Napier-Campbell Blue Bird. He set his final land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah on 3 September 1935, and was the first person to drive an automobile over 300 mph, averaging 301.337 mph (484.955 km/h) in two passes The card measures 6 1/8 inches by 3 ½ inches approximately. It does have some creasing. It does makes a fantastic display piece. I have scanned the card both front and back, fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. I doubt many of these would have survived over the years, and given Canada’s significantly smaller population base when compared to the USA or UK, I imagine it was not a big print run to start with. Most would have been thrown away after being used as a blotter. It also had to survive the paper drives of World War two which was just around the corner. Its an 80 year old survivor. Don’t miss out I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds and Circus themes. To view the other cards I have up on ebay please click on the “View Sellers other Items” Icon located on this page. It will take you directly to them. Due to my work schedule and distance to the post office I am only able to ship Monday Mornings. If I haven’t received payment for an item by Sunday evening, the item will have to wait until the next Monday to go out. Its unfortunate but unavoidable. If this doesn’t work for you I respectfully ask that you do not bid or buy. Thanks again. This will be mailed from the USA. Unfortunately Ebay’s Global Seller Program does not allow for combined shipments on international order
