Description: Book club editions (BCE) are most often easily identified from the specific identification of the book being a BCE from the dust jacket and/or from a notch on the back board bottom right. This one was found without the dust jacket and there is no notch on the back board. I learned about BCEs of, To Kill a Mockingbird, from another listing, and I assume that information is true. There are four BCEs altogether, and the one of this listing is the first to have been published, shortly after publication of the first trade edition. Though undesignated as such, this one is the Literary Guild edition, published in August, 1960. The first trade edition was published a month before, in July of that year. It is in a somewhat smaller and lighter format (same height, just thinner) than the trade edition (and the Book-of-the-Month Club edition, which came out later). It has 255 pages (the trade edition has 296 pages). The text is the same, just printed slightly smaller. The binding is grey paper-covered boards, quarter-bound in black at the spine with white lettering. The other three book club editions were: the Reader's Digest Book Club, the Book-of-the-Month Club and (in England) the Book Society. This copy is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. A little bit of the white has scraped off the spine title, the boards have very light corner and edge wear, corners are moderately bumped. There is a yellow top stain, there are no interior marks in 255 clean and solidly bound pages. A NICE COPY! (albeit without the dust jacket). B111
