Description: 1976 San Francisco Bicentennial Cake Emporium Rotunda California Postcard San Francisco celebrated its 200th anniversary in 1976, commemorating the city's founding on June 29, 1776. The city also celebrated the 200th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The celebration included: October 1975: the Emporium, a department store on Market Street that closed in 1996, baked a 35,000-pound birthday cake. The cake was 32 feet tall, 35,000 pounds of fruitcake and 5,000 pounds of Royal Icing. The icing was sculptured depicting mural scenes of 200 years of San Francisco history. The cake was sculptured by Sharon and Steve Volk of Creative Cakes by Volk of Saratoga, California. Please review the photos carefully for condition and detail.
