Description: I'm not sure exactly what to call this. A soldier's gift to a female relative or sweetheart. I have seen these called holders for lingerie, handkerchiefs, or love letters. This was a valued gift because it was kept in immaculate condition. It shows the flower emblems of British countries in a basket. Roses for England, clover for Ireland, and thistles for Scotland, but missing the daffodils for Wales. The roses are executed in ribbon embroidery. The remaining image is hand-painted onto light blue silk. Trimmed in light blue cord. Padded without pockets on the interior. Yellow silk interior lining. Approximate age: WW1 1917 - 1918 Dimensions: diameter 11.5" wide x 17” long x 0.25” deep high thick (length & thickness when laid flat, not folded over in its usual stored form). Condition: Very good giftable condition. Gap in edge cording as seen in last photo. Clean, without stains, spots, tears, rips, smells, or discolorations. No out-of-shape issues or impending fabric fragility. Original cording trim. Unpacked weight: 2.5 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping.
