Description: Description: A very good copy of the 1928 1st American edition of Ashenden - Or the British Agent published by Doubleday Doran, New York. It is lacking the scarce dust jacket. Ashenden is loosely based on Maugham's experience as a member of British Intelligence in Europe during the First World War. Condition: 8vo. 304 pages - publishers' blue cloth with orange titles and decorations and top edge orange. Light wear to edges, corners rubbed, a bump to the lower rear corner and spine ends. Sunning to the spine and edges and a small scratch to the rear cover. The interior is in nice condition with the original book owner's name, a 1928 date and a crease to the paper on the front free endpaper. Overall, a very good copy of the book that is frequently cited as a main influence on the character of James Bond.
