Description: A rare SARREGUEMINES Obernai patented terrine presumably for Foie Gras or something equally fatty that needs to be insulated and baked. The walls to this are super thick, about an inch think. I have never seen something like this. Its difficult to create thickness in ceramics because they can explode in the kiln while firing. Presumably this was a special porcelain formula to permit this thick walled vessel. It is decorated with two local village scenes by Henri Loux, who provided all the designs for the Obernai pattern. There are two chips on the rim (the larger one photographed) but not visible when closed. 5 1/2" to top of finial. 4 1/2" wide. Weighs 1kg
