The feature packed Super Fifteen is light on the back and on the wallet. What Do We Think We love that Magnatone has given us two distinct inputs on this amp. Input 1 has a snappy bark on the top end and a big punch on the bottom. In the middle of the gain dial you’ll find iconic classic rock tones with Bluesbreaker-inspired chime and clarity. Push it with a Tube Screamer if you want a single-channel rig with the ability to go from vintage breakup to soaring lead tones with just one pedal. Turn the gain up past 2 o’clock for JCM800-like tones straight from the amp. Palm muted, aggressive riffing stays tight even with a huge, chugging low end that we wouldn’t have expected out of a low wattage amp. This can be dialed in at ear-friendly level thanks to the master volume. We were very pleased to notice a natural taper in the high end as you dial up the gain, meaning you don’t have to change your EQ or presence at higher gain settings to prevent the amp from becoming shrill. Input 2 highlights the rich, cleaner voice of the Super Fifteen. Below noon on the gain it has a warm low end paired with welcome hints of an AC30 sparkle on top. At noon the midrange starts to come forward and you’ll get delicious, more colored tones as you keep turning it up. If you’re a pedal guy, this input delivers plenty of headroom to stack boost and drive pedals in front of the amp. One of the most significant and thoughtful features is the inclusion of an internal speaker load, allowing you to use the line out straight to your interface without the need for an external load box! The speaker simulation does away with the need to run cab IR’s and sounds and feels through our studio monitors remarkably close to how we hear the amp in the room through the Magnatone 1x12” extension cabinet. With the line out located post power section and incorporating the master volume, it is leaps and bounds superior tonally to tapping your signal at the effects send.
