Description: Here's a wonderful old maple sugar candy mold and likely from the late 19th century. The piece is a hand cut and carved paddle-like shape with the handle an integral part of the rectangular form. Though I'm not sure, I think the piece is oak and the hand work is visible in the saw marks at the ends and along the slightly mis-cut handle. Overall length is 15-1/2" with the rectangle being 11-1/2" x 6-3/4." The piece has a pretty old patina which looks like it was partly removed in a less than complete cleaning attempt. There are cutout for five different forms, the most elaborate being a large fish and the others smaller organic forms. Those cutouts (2) with flat bottoms have further leafy carvings on the flat base. I can almost taste the candy...
