Description: Mel Munsen ala 'Arts and Crafts' Favrile Art Glass Vase 6"w x 5"h: Flawless! Mel Munsen is an American glass artist based in Calgary, Canada (Victoria). A native of California, he studied in Murano, Italy, where he learned the 'fused murrhine' technique applied to his glass art since the late 1990s. We think this is an earlier work though undated. We found one almost like it under his name on Live Auctioneers. Lots of examples of his fabulous contemporary work seen online selling in the low 1000s. This one would definitely be at home in an Arts and Crafts interior. The sage green glass has a 'craqele' pattern one needs a light on it to see well, then there is a beautiful peacock feather type muted rainbow favrile scalloping starting about 1/3 of the way down up to the mouth, which is a solid dark green ring 2 .75" across around the edge. The favrile is a feathery abstraction all the way around, with the bottom inch 'scallops' having a dark spot in the middle. Under light all this shows with gorgeous colors; otherwise it looks like a a translucent green bronze vase with a spotted motif around the shoulders. No damage or issues like staining. has a polished bottom 3" across with a flat snap-cut puntil mark in the middle, where the correct signature: "Munsen" is etched. We've had the vase for at least 20 years, it is probably from the late 1990s.
