Description: Old Bell Trading Post Turquoise Nickel Silver Thunderbird Native American Signed. This piece is an authentic old Bell Trading Post nickel silver stamped traditional Navajo thunderbird. It has a round blue turquoise set in the center in a sawtooth bezel setting. The thunderbird measures 1.5" tall by 1.5" wide. Most pieces like this are either a brooch with a pin on the back or a pendant with a hole drilled in the thunderbird's eye. This rare piece is neither. It is stamped on back with the Bell Trading Post hallmark of a bell and the words "Nickel Silver Bell" around the bell. The hallmark indicates this is an earlier piece produced by the trading post, probably late 1930s. Bell Trading Post was established in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1932. The trading post's jewelry and souvenirs were made by Native American workers. This old Bell Trading Post nickel silver and turquoise thunderbird is in very good condition, as shown in the photos. It may have some minor surface wear and age-appropriate oxidation. It has not been professionally cleaned so as not to compromise the beauty of the natural patina.
