Description: BRAND NEW - AUTHORIZED RESELLER The Game of Life Vintage Bookshelf Edition by WS Game Company The Game: In 1860, a lithographer named Milton Bradley needed a new product to boost his printing business (his best–selling portrait of Abraham Lincoln was no longer in demand as the president had just shaved his trademarked beard). So he created The Checkered Game of Life. In 1960, a multi-talented inventor named Reuben Klamer visited the Milton Bradley game company in Springfield, Massachusetts. The art center concept he presented was not of interest to the president of the firm, but he was told that the Milton Bradley company needed a game to commemorate its 100th anniversary. Upon discovering The Checkered Game of Life among the company's archives, Reuben was electrified by the word "Life" and inspired to create a new game based upon this single word. Reuben then became an author and inventor of THE GAME OF LIFE, complete with its "3-D" circuitous track, buildings, mountains, and iconic spinner. THE GAME OF LIFE attempts to mirror life events many people go through from going to college, getting married, raising a family, buying a home, to working and retiring. The goal of the game is to have the most assets at the end of the game. Assets are earned primarily by working and earning tokens with dollar amounts on them. Additionally the first person to complete the course gets additional money tokens. THE GAME OF LIFE is a mostly linear board that you move along by spinning a wheel or landing on spaces that tell you to move to a specific space or forward or back. There are a handful of intersections where you can choose to go one direction or another but they ultimately have similar spaces and meet back up quickly. There are a handful of choices regarding insurance and investments but for the most part it is a game of luck.
