VINTAGE 1932 THE NEW BUESCHER ARISTOCRAT TRANSITIONAL ALTO SAXOPHONE

This is a transitional model produced briefly in the mid-1930's. It is the rarest of all Buescher models. These have developed a bit of a cult following, particularly among admirers of the great classical saxophonist Sigurd Rascher. Mr. Rascher played a New Aristocrat throughout his very lengthy career, even well after his contemporaries had switched to more modern instruments. Students of Rascher, and their students, continue to seek out this model to this day, a testament to its quality. The serial number on this horn is 263,xxx, which indicates a c.1932 production date. This horn features Buescher's proprietary snap on resonators (of which most are still present), and Norton screw in springs. This model came with a variety of neck options, this one having the "**" type. This sax is being sold as is for repair/restoration. It is not currently in playing condition. It will require a full overhaul to be made playable. The body is straight. It is feels like the bell might be very slightly out of round. I say 'feels' because it is not something that is visible, however it feels slightly that way when pinching around its circumference with my thumb and forefinger. The neck has some pull down, which has resulted in the outer edges of the key saddle separating slightly from the tube. There are also several minor nicks on the neck. The body has a few minor pings and nicks, but no significant dents. The bow guard has not been pushed in. The rim of the bell has not been bent. I don't see any pushed in posts or key guard feet, however a couple of the key guards are badly bent, with several of their feet needing to be resoldered. The brace between the keyguards for the forked Eb and low B pads is missing. This is a weak point on these horns, so it is very common to see this piece having come off. There are a few previously re-soldered key-guard feet. The lyre mount is bent. Part of the octave key is not original, and it is broken anyway...the actuator pin is broken off and missing. None of the keys are frozen, but something must be bent in the lower stack, which is causing those keys to sit very low. Most of the original snap-on resonators are intact, but it looks like four have been removed. The rollers are all turning freely. The lacquer is mostly intact, with some scratching/scuffing from normal use. It has darkened with age to a golden honey hue. I believe it is old re-lacquer, but the engraving isn't too washed out. This will definitely take some work to be restored, but it should be worth it considering how rare these are! There is no case, nor any other accessories included.
