Description: Vintage Smithsonian Collection Carousel Animals Christmas Ornament----The Horse. NIB"The Horse is an adaptation of a carousel animal design found in a color carousel catalog ca. 1910 Hershell-Spillman Company, North Tonawanda, N.Y. from the collection of the National Museum of American History" See photo of tag for more info. This galloping horse is sculpted with meticulous detail and hand painted to resemble the beautiful hand carved carousel animals from the late 1800's. Our horse is painted in light and slightly darker tan with a silver mane and variegated tail. He is wearing an elaborate blanket and saddle which depicts a helmeted soldier carrying a multi-color shield----all beautifully detailed and hand painted in rich colors. The gold painted pole he is mounted on is wrapped with red and gold ribbon creating a rich effect. Gorgeous! Wonderful for a carousel or horse collector---or just an appreciator of American history and craftsmanship! See our other carousel animal ornaments for sale.
